Description
Brookcliff House is a magnificent 17th and 18th century Peak District country house sleeps up to 14 persons in six bedrooms together with an attached cottage sleeping a further two persons plus a baby. The cottage is attached to the house with an internal, communicating door but has a separate front door so that the cottage and house can be rented separately. We are located high in a small, peaceful hamlet on the border of the Peak District National Park. Every bedroom in the house commands spectacular views over the hamlet and/or to the hills beyond.

There are many walks of different grades right from the door. A walk to Kinder Scout is feasible during the summer and, if completed by train from Edale, even in the winter months. (Chinley Station is a 20-minute walk from the house.) We are a short distance from Rfuship Edge which is an internationally renowned centre for para-gliding and also from rock climbs of different grades of difficulty.

A feature of Brookcliff House is the attached and integral 17th century living room (see photo) built originally as a secret Quaker chapel. It has the original oak beams, a wood-burning stove (from January 2010), a table for games or for smaller numbers to dine, television, DVD and stereo system.

The house is wired throughout for internet access and there are two wi-fi access points to give coverage over the whole of this large property.

We have a large, private garden and there is ample off-road parking. The house is generously equipped with an extensive library of books, a DVD library, a kitchen equipped for gourmet cooking and a dining room set up normally to seat 12 but able to seat 16. There is easy access to Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth and all of the main attractions of the Peak District.

The house is located within the farming compound of Linda and Scott Moss. We raise rare-breed sheep and chickens and will provide eggs and meat as available and on request. Some of the sheep were hand-reared and are very friendly and safe for children.

There are two railway stations close by Chinley and Chapel en le Frith giving good access by public transport to both Manchester and Sheffield and points between.
